Safety Switch & RCD Installation
Safety switches save lives. If your home doesn't have RCDs on all circuits, you're at risk. Amplus Electrical & Air installs, tests and replaces safety switches across Capalaba and the Redlands — fast, affordable and done right.
What Is a Safety Switch (RCD)?
A safety switch — also known as an RCD (Residual Current Device) — is a device that monitors the flow of electricity through a circuit. If it detects a fault (such as electricity flowing through a person), it cuts the power in as little as 30 milliseconds. That's fast enough to save a life.
Safety switches are different to circuit breakers, which protect your wiring and appliances. Safety switches protect people. Every home should have them on all circuits.
Is Your Home Protected?
Queensland regulations require safety switches on all power and lighting circuits in new builds and renovated circuits. However, many older homes across the Redlands still don't have adequate RCD protection. As your trusted electrician based in Capalaba, Aaron can check your switchboard and tell you exactly what protection you have — and what you need.

Rental Property Safety Switch Compliance
If you're a landlord in the Redlands, safety switch compliance is your legal responsibility. Queensland law requires landlords to ensure rental properties have safety switches installed. Amplus can carry out a compliance inspection and install any required RCDs quickly and at a competitive price.
How to Test Your Safety Switch
You should test your safety switches every three months by pressing the test button on the device. If it doesn't trip the power, the switch is faulty and needs replacing immediately. If you're unsure how to test yours or think yours may be faulty, give Aaron a call — we cover all areas from Capalaba to Cleveland, Birkdale, Wynnum and beyond.
- Press the 'T' or 'Test' button on your safety switch
- Power to that circuit should cut out immediately
- Reset by flicking the switch back to the 'on' position
- If power doesn't cut out — call an electrician immediately
